Te Araroa

The Long Pathway
http://www.teararoa.org.nz/

The Te Araroa trail is a walking path, currently being extended in New Zealand by the Te Araroa trust. The trust has been developing rapidly for 16 years and they have teamed up with 8 regional trusts to complete the Te Araroa trail.

Smaller trails will be joined together to create a continuous pathway, leading from Cape Reinga in the North to Bluff in the South and stretching for approximately 3000 kms, becoming one of the worlds longest walking trails. The pathway will allow people to see New Zealand in it's true beauty and will pass through forests and farmland, over coastlines and mountains.

The pathway is to be officially opened in February 2011 and I intend to be one of the first people to complete the whole length of it. I will be teaming up with Shalane Hopkins (see the team page for more info) and we plan to depart for the trek on 15 October 2010, allowing ourselves 5 months to complete it.

Although I haved trekked many times in the past across different terrains, Te Araroa is on a scale that is bigger than I could have ever imagined. However, the challenge of this new adventure and the experience I do have makes me confident that I will be succussful in my journey.

From this new adventure I hope to raise awareness and promote environmental sustainability, I hope to encourage the younger generation to become more active and respect their surroundings and of course, I hope to raise money for the Indigo Foundation.
